Champadevi Hike

Rise early to embark on a scenic hike to Champadevi temple from your accommodation at Haatiban Himalayan Height Resort. This trail traverses through the pristine forest and flourishing greenery of Haatiban. Enjoy the fresh air and peaceful environment smattered with sightings of colorful birds. As you ascend, you will encounter a Buddhist monastery, shrines, and some tea houses. The trail comes to an end at an altitude of 2,278 meters, which is home to the temple of goddess Champa Devi, who watches over the surrounding woodland.

Upon reaching the summit, take a moment to soak in the picturesque scenery. The autumn and winter seasons offer breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks like Gauri Shankar, Dorje Lakpa, and Langtang Lirung. End the hike with a well-deserved breakfast spread at the resort.

Asura & Yangleshö Cave

These sacred sites lie just beyond Kathmandu Valley’s southern rim in Pharping village. The lower cave is Yangleshö, now located in the village of Pharping and the upper cave is Asura, located higher in a thick forest on a hill right behind Pharping. The caves of Asura and Yangleshö are of immense significance for followers of Guru Padmasambhava, akin to Bodh Gaya for Vajrayāna practitioners. Guru Rinpoche used these caves as a retreat to focus on Yangdak Heruka, a wrathful form of Buddha’s wisdom mind and later combined it with practice of Vajrakilaya, a deity associated with the Buddha’s enlightened activity. The result was that he attained the siddhi of Mahamudra, the great seal. Devotees have journeyed here for centuries, paying homage to the place and Guru Rinpoche. What you didn’t know: There’s a handprint on the left side of the Asura cave’s entrance. It is not Guru Rinpoche’s, unfortunately.

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking enthusiasts looking for a thrilling ride will not be disappointed at Haatiban Resort. The forest is etched with moderate as well as demanding trails. Experienced riders can expect technically demanding rides with steep descents, slippery surfaces, and even a long staircase to navigate. Beginners will enjoy riding along the hiking trails through the woods.

Mountain bikes are available for hire at the resort upon request, along with shuttle service.

Dudjom Namdrom Choling Monastery

Nestled just off the trail leading to Champa Devi Temple, Dudjom Nadrom Choling is a serene Buddhist monastery. Situated close to Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) statue, the monastery, though smaller in size compared to others, boasts a main prayer room that exudes aesthetic beauty and tranquility. The monastery grounds are expansive and welcome all, offering a space for meditation, introspection, and revitalization. For visitors who prefer not to embark on the hike to Champa Devi, the walk to Dudjom Nadrom Choling serves as an excellent alternative. Meandering through the peaceful woods from the resort, this leisurely stroll offers a pleasant and easy-paced journey.

Padmasambhava Statue

The entire region of Pharping has been a pilgrimage site for Tibetans ever since Guru Rinpoche first started meditating in its caves. The numerous monasteries and Buddhist landmarks scattered throughout the area are testimony to it. Amongst them, the one that stands out is the impressive statue of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), towering at a height of 40 meters. This magnificent statue was erected in 2012 and provides a commanding view over the monasteries of Dollu and Pharping.

Dakshinkali Temple

Located just 7 kilometers from the resort, the Dakshinkali Temple is a significant religious site situated near the village of Pharping. The name “Dakshinkali Temple” is the combination of two words: “Dakshin,” meaning “south,” and “Kali,” the fierce and formidable deity of this sacred place. The temple holds great importance in Nepal, its reputation stemming from its rich rituals and traditions, particularly the regular sacrifice of uncastrated male goats and cockerels.

When here, be enamored in the mystical aura of the place, enhanced by the smell of the incense, the chanting of mantras, the sounds of cymbals and bells, and the dense wood that surrounds it. Do not forget to try the rich khuwa, a delicacy made of condensed milk. We highly recommend packing some for home too!

Chandragiri Hike

For passionate hikers in search of an exhilarating day within the valley, the Champadevi-Chandragiri hike comes highly recommended. Kickstart your adventure with a hearty breakfast at the resort before setting off early. The well-trodden trail leads you through a majestic forest of towering emerald pine trees, adorned with colorful prayer flags fluttering gently in the breeze. While the path is mostly stone-paved, it transforms into stone steps approximately 20 minutes before you reach the Champadevi summit, offering a challenge for your knees. Yet, amidst the journey, feast your eyes on the mesmerizing vista of the magnificent Himalayas and the lush green hills that embrace you.

Taudaha, located on the outskirts of Kathmandu Valley in Chobhar, is the valley’s sole natural lake. For nature enthusiasts seeking tranquility, away from the hustle-bustle of the city center, this place serves as an idyllic destination. Enveloped by lush greenery, the lake offers a serene and refreshing ambiance, its waters glimmering under the warm rays of sunlight during clear weather.

Taudaha is also known for its rich biodiversity, which holds tremendous ecological significance. Teeming with various aquatic plants, fish species, and migratory birds, the lake becomes a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts. Grab a seat in the nearest restaurant and ease into the ambiance!

The Sheshnarayan Temple

The Sheshnarayan Temple complex is a remarkable site where mythology is carved into the very cliffs. It is one of the four significant Narayan (Vishnu) temples in the Kathmandu Valley. One of the main attractions of this temple is a cluster of knobby stalactites that people reverently worship, believing them to resemble a cow’s udder. According to folklore there was a time when milk used to drip from these stalactites. Just above the udder formation, there is a serpentine structure with a flared hood, reminiscent of the mythical seven-headed Sheshnag of Hindu folklore. The temple itself is named after this unique formation.

Even more captivating than the stalactites is a pristine pond with crystal clear water. Within this pond, colorful fish swim leisurely, eagerly consuming the food offered by visitors. It is a peaceful destination that can easily be visited during a day trip.
